ITTS FOR PARENTS

Parenting support and coaching that honors neurodiversity.

Traditional parenting approaches don’t typically consider and value neurodiversity. As therapists, we are all parents of neurodiverse kids (and many of us are neurodiverse ourselves). We have been there; we are there. The spectrum is infinite. We understand that the approach that is right for each family is the one that is specifically personalized to not only the needs of the individual child, but those of the entire family system.

  • “My daughter was recently diagnosed with dysgraphia and dyscalculia. ITTS and Joann have been absolutely wonderful throughout this process, and with their help I have seen my daughter work through some difficult situations more confidently. The parent coaching group was so helpful in terms of understanding these diagnoses, which in turn eased my anxiety about them. The group was educational and also a safe space to share and talk to other parents about how to best parent our neurodiverse children - from how to manage things at home to how to work with our school and teachers. After participating in this group, I feel more confident when talking about my daughter’s neurodiversity; I also feel like I’ve been equipped with new skills to help me relate and parent her better. I would absolutely recommend ITTS and their parent coaching group - it has been and continues to be an invaluable resource. ”- Jenni

  • "I was having trouble understanding how to best support my son who has language-based learning differences, vestibular issues and history of concussion and anxiety, especially anxiety at school. I was finding myself getting anxious because of past challenges at his school with getting recognition of his challenges and support to address them. Joann evaluated my son in his school and when we interacted about him, she clearly understood my son’s strengths, the challenges he was experiencing, and immediately gave me supportive tips for parenting that were affirming of what I intuitively knew were good for my son and also tips on how to stretch myself. I felt support, gained knowledge and realistic expectations about how to parent my son and support him in his education and at home. I learned my own way of engaging with the world and how my son engaged and how I was communicating past him rather than with him at times. I have been able to use strategies Joann shared to truly connect with him and to help him express himself to me. I am at much more peace with myself as a parent." -Margaret
